Advanced Polyolefins

Basell produces an innovative family of specialty polyolefins which includes polybutene-1, advanced polypropylene resins from the Catalloy process and polypropylene compounds. These products offer a wide range of performance characteristics superior to conventional polyolefins and other competing polymers. Our products can be formulated to meet specific customer requirements.

Our portfolio of advanced polymers can deliver additional “value in use”, through:

  • Performance - which can enable replacement of higher priced flexible polymers or engineering resins with more cost efficient polyolefins
  • Properties - which can bring cost benefits along the value chain and enable differentiation in end-use applications versus commonly used “commodity” materials
  • Opportunities to modify properties of other polymers used in compounded, extruded, injection moulded and other blended applications

Our global Advanced Polyolefins Business markets four main products:

  • Polypropylene compounds including mineral and glass filled materials, generally used to improve stiffness/impact, dimensional stability, scratch resistance and paint adhesion
  • Advanced reactor TPO resins, generally softer and more flexible, based on Basell’s proprietary Catalloy process
  • Polybutene-1 resins which provide a unique combination of hardness, flexibility and dimensional stability
  • Specialty polyethylene resins

  • Electrical/Electronic and white goods appliances
  • Property modification and advanced functionality in polyolefin films such as multi-layer adhesion, barrier properties and metallization
  • Adhesive applications such as peal-seal films and hot melt adhesives
  • Speciality film such as shrink hood, stretch and breathable film and for industrial, consumer, food and medical use packaging
  • Property modification for customers engaged in polymer processes such as compounding, injection moulding, blow moulding
