Through our R&D organisation, we develop new and enhanced polyolefin catalysts, processes and products for our customers that deliver value.
We continue to build on our tradition of innovation following a heritage brought forward from predecessor companies that encompasses nearly every major development in polyolefins:
- Discovery of the polymerzation process for the manufacture of HDPE by Karl Ziegler
- First crystalline polypropylene polymerised by Giulio Natta
- Karl Ziegler and Giulio Natta jointly awarded Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their discoveries in polyolefins technology and catalysts
- Developed world-class technologies for the manufacture of PP and PE that are the most widely used processes in the world
- Developed state-of-the-art catalyst family that enables broadest and most versatile range of polyolefins to be manufactured
Our R&D activities focus on continuous improvement of our technologies, always with the aim to provide value to our customers. With polyolefin manufacturing facilities in 19 countries on five continents, we have a wealth of expertise in process technology and resins production that is unmatched in the industry.
When Basell develops new or enhanced catalysts and process technologies, we:
- provide opportunities for manufacturers to produce world-class products with very wide performance attributes for an extremely broad range of industries and end-uses
- provide processors and converters with the potential to address increasing demands for products that process faster, that are stronger, softer or lighter-weight and that are safer, cost-effective and recyclable
- improve quality of life for people around the globe by facilitating the development of products that meet their needs
